Rising pop star and Glastonbury performer PinkPantheress has disclosed that she is banned from every Sainsbury’s store across the UK following a shoplifting incident during her teenage years.
The 23-year-old singer, whose real name is Victoria Beverley Walker, made the revelation during a recent GQ interview.
The Glastonbury performer explained that whilst she did not steal anything herself, she received a nationwide ban after her friend took a Drumstick lolly from the supermarket chain.
The incident, which occurred when she was a teenager, has resulted in her being barred from all Sainsbury’s outlets throughout the country.
The confession emerged as the artist promoted her new single, titled Illegal.
“My friend stole a Drumstick from Sainsbury’s, but that actually is illegal,” PinkPantheress told GQ.
“I remember thinking to myself like, and we got banned, and we really went through it. I got banned, but I didn’t steal anything.”
The singer expressed frustration at the severity of the punishment given their age at the time.
“Given our age at the time, one Drumstick resulting in a ban, it’s a bit much. Because we were banned from all Sainsbury’s across the country,” she said.
The timing of the revelation has not been lost on fans, who have noted the ironic coincidence of her discussing an “illegal” incident whilst promoting her latest single of the same name.
