Rihanna welcomes first daughter in adorable post as singer shares unique name of third child

Music icon Rihanna has revealed the arrival of her first daughter through a social media announcement on Wednesday evening.

The 37-year-old artist posted on Instagram to confirm the birth of Rocki Irish Mayers, who arrived on September 13.

The announcement featured a photograph of the newborn wrapped in pink blankets with a decorative bow. The infant’s full name follows the family’s established pattern of names beginning with R.

This marks the third addition to the household the performer shares with her partner, the American rapper.

The couple are already parents to two boys, with their eldest son born in May 2022 and their second arriving in August 2023.

The birth comes four months after the singer revealed her pregnancy during her appearance at the Met Gala in New York.

The baby’s first name appears to honour her father, whose legal surname is Mayers.

The musician had previously indicated to Entertainment Tonight in July that their third child would follow their established naming convention, stating: “It’s always going to be an R name. That’s the one thing me and Rocky don’t fight over.”

During a separate Entertainment Tonight interview, the rapper appeared to suggest they were expecting a girl when questioned about whether this was “the girl you’ve been waiting for.” He replied with a smile: “It is, man, it is.”

The Instagram reveal included images of pink boxing gloves adorned with silk ribbons alongside the swaddled newborn.

The baby wore pink lace-trimmed socks that coordinated with the pink accents on her mother’s gold timepiece.

The pregnancy was confirmed in May when the entrepreneur appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual fundraiser wearing a form-fitting Miu Miu ensemble that displayed her growing bump. Her partner served as co-chair for the 2025 event.

This low-key revelation echoed her approach to announcing her second pregnancy, which she disclosed during her 2023 Super Bowl halftime performance.

She later explained to Access Hollywood that the reveal hadn’t been planned: “My jumper couldn’t zip up. No one knew I was pregnant. I just told my stylist, ‘Make sure it’s stretchy.'”

The new arrival joins brothers RZA, aged three, and Riot Rose, who turned two in August.

The Grammy-winning artist has spoken candidly about how parenthood has transformed her perspective. In an interview with The Cut last year, she acknowledged that motherhood had introduced new anxieties: “I’m actually afraid of s***. The well-being of your kids, you worry about that constantly.”

She told Harper’s Bazaar earlier this year that her children now dictate every choice she makes.

“Every decision I make revolves around them, but everything that I do that I love robs me of them,” she explained, describing a complex emotional balance.

The singer characterised her eldest as “an empath” who “loves music” and “loves books,” whilst describing Riot as “hilarious” and her morning alarm. “When he wakes up, he starts to squeal, scream. Not in a crying way. He just wants to sing,” she said.
