ITV BGT Post Office choir issues plea to Labour over future of sub-postmaster saga: ‘People are scared!’

Members of the choir Hear Our Voice have outlined their hopes for the future as sub-postmasters everywhere continue to seek justice for the Horizon scandal.

The choir, who made it all the way to the final of this year’s Britain’s Got Talent, are made up predominantly of sub-postmasters who appeared on the ITV show in order to raise awareness of the ongoing fight for justice.

Much like the ITV drama Mr Bates Vs The Post Office, heightened awareness of the Horizon scandal has put pressure on the government to compensate the affected sub-postmasters.

However, given it’s been over two decades since the scandal first erupted, many are still without justice, but one Hear Our Voice member remained optimistic when speaking to the People’s Channel at the NRTAs.

When asked how their stint on BGT changed their lives, they told GB News: “Oh, it’s been amazing. It’s been such a positive experience.

“It’s been so healing for all of us. We’ve got a whole new family now. Like friends that you feel you’ve known for a long, long time. So it’s been an amazing experience.”

On the impact of their stint on the show, they went on: “I think we’ve definitely raised awareness, which is what we set out to do, which is a brilliant thing.

“I think it’s really positive what’s happened recently with the inquiry, especially for family members of the people that are affected by the scandal.

“So we’re just keeping everything crossed that the government, you know, continue to do what they’re doing, which is positive steps.”

But despite the government finally jumping into action of late, there is still more to do.

“I think just keep the momentum going, keep everything going as it is,” the Hear Our Voice member said.

“And also more people come forward. I think a lot of people still haven’t come forward.”

She pleaded: “I think people are still scared, and I think it’d be good if people move forward.”

Hear Our Voice were then asked if the media could be doing more for the sub-postmasters, given the impact of the ITV drama Mr Bates and the choir’s stint on GT.

“I think, just keep reaching out and speaking to different people,” they said.

“The more stories and the more people you speak to and you realise how big a ripple effect and the impact this has had on so many people will just help so many people and also keep it in the forefront of people’s minds.”

The NRTAs saw BGT alum Ant and Dec as well as Amanda Holden bag awards for their roles on the variety show.

There was also cause for celebration for GB News, with Breakfast bagging the Best News Programme gong.
