Coldplay frontman Chris Martin subtly addressed the awkward affair scandal which stemmed from their Boston gig on Wednesday, which has since gone viral on social media.
Last week, cameras at a Boston concert placed the spotlight on a couple who quickly darted away from each other, leading to the singer joking they could be “having an affair,” which turned out to be true.
The clip exploded on TikTok and soon the internet was awash with the footage and jokes regarding the awkward incident.
During Coldplay’s following gig, which took place in Madison, Wisconsin, Martin, 48, gave a warning to audience members before the camera panned around.
While not directly referencing the scandal, Martin joked to the stadium on July 19: “We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd and put some of you on the big screen.
“How were going to do that is we’re going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.”
Seemingly having learnt from the incident on Wednesday, he went on to warn fans: “Please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now!”
The viral moment has since led to one of the involved parties, Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, resigning from his position.
The pair were caught in an embrace as Martin commented: “Oh, look at these two!”
As the couple noticed they were on screen they immediately pulled apart from each other, with the woman, understood to be a co-worker, Kristin Cabot, covering her face and Byron walking out of the camera’s view.
“Alright, come on, you’re ok!” Martin initially remarked before adding: “Oh, what?”
He went on to quip: “Either they’re having an affair or are just very shy!”
The awkward interaction sparked laughter from the 65,000-strong crowd, with Martin adding: “I’m not quite sure what to do now”.
Another clip showed the musician stating in a worried tone: “Oh s***, I hope we didn’t do something bad.”
Unsurprisingly, the clip instantly went wild online, going viral in a matter of hours.
In a statement on Saturday, a representative for the tech company Astronomer admitted Byron’s actions fell short of standards.
“As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” they told Page Six.
“Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.
