Your favourite ITV shows will be available to stream on Sky Glass, Sky Stream, and Sky Q for years to come. Sky has extended its partnership with ITV to retain access to the ITVX streaming service and its free-to-air channels.

The agreement means ITV content, such as Trigger Point, Code of Silence, The 1% Club, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Here!, and Love Island will continue to be available alongside award-winning Sky Originals like The Day of the Jackal, Gangs of London, Brassic, and Sweetpea.

Sky can recommend new boxsets, films, or live events from the ITVX catalogue or live ITV channels based on your viewing habits. Individual viewers can have their own profiles, with different AI-powered suggestions for everyone.

The latest hardware from the British broadcaster, Sky Glass Gen 2, Sky Glass Air, the original Sky Glass, and Sky Stream, are powered by SkyOS, which includes a preinstalled ITVX app to watch shows and shows on-demand. If you have a subscription to ITVX Premium, which costs £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year, sign-in with this account on the ITVX app to unlock perks like advert-free streams, hundreds of extra films and shows, and iconic British boxsets from BritBox.

Sky Q, which first launched back in February 2016 and runs a separate operating system, catch-up content from ITV is fed directly into the set-top box, with no need to launch a separate app to start watching. However, if you want to access exclusive shows or films on ITVX, there is a version of the app available.

Sky struck a similar deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to bring HBO Max to subscribers at no extra cost when it launches in the UK early next year.

For those who don’t know, HBO is the US network behind many of the biggest breakout hits on Sky Atlantic over the years, including The Last of Us, Euphoria, The White Lotus, Succession, And Just Like That, Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Big Little Lies, The Flight Attendant, The Penguin, and more.

Not only that, but its back catalogue is packed with critically adored favourites, like The Sopranos, Band of Brothers, The Wire, Sex and the City, True Detective, the list goes on.

HBO is about to start filming its hotly anticipated Harry Potter series, which will adapt each of JK Rowling’s bestselling books over a season of television — a project that’s expected to take the best part of a decade. The first season, based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and expected to be eight hours long, will debut next summer.

Until now, you’ve probably associated all of these shows with Sky Atlantic. But that’s about to change.

The upcoming Harry Potter series will be coming to HBO Max, the streaming service operated by the US network.

HBO has already confirmed plans to bring this Netflix competitor to the UK early next year. As well as new episodes of Harry Potter and ongoing series like The White Lotus, The Last Of Us, and The Gilded Age, this streamer will have access to on-demand episodes of all the shows listed above alongside HBO documentaries, stand-up shows, and films.

HBO Max is already available in several European countries. There’s no word on UK subscription prices, but the streamer starts from $9.99 (£7.20) a month for an ad-supported plan in the US, rising to $16.99 (£12.50) for ad-free viewing.

Fortunately Sky TV subscribers can continue to watch these HBO shows on Sky Atlantic and access the complete back catalogue from the US broadcaster via the HBO Max app, which will be coming to Sky Glass and Sky Stream. Sky already includes a Netflix Standard with Ads subscription with all of its packages.

It supports streamers like Apple TV+, Disney+, Paramount+, Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, and Channel 4 on its devices.

ITV pulled the plug on two separate services hosted on Amazon’s Prime Video platform — ITV Catchup and BritBox — at the beginning of last year in a dramatic shake-up of its streaming offering.

Both ITV-owned channels were available as standalone subscriptions for Prime Video users, with the monthly fees charged directly to the payment details stored on your Amazon account.

Channels offer a way to watch content from other providers within the Prime Video app, so you don’t need to continuously bounce between multiple apps to find the boxset, documentary, or movie that you’re looking to watch. Since everything is managed by your Amazon account, there’s also no need to create a standalone login for every streamer either.

But it wasn’t just convenience that made ITV Catchup such a good option for Prime Video viewers, it was also a more affordable way to ditch adverts from your favourite ITV shows. Ad-free viewing cost £3.99 a month via Prime Video channels, compared to £5.99 per month for ITVX Premium.

Some older set-top boxes and Android Smart TVs are incompatible with the standalone ITVX app, which only launched in December 2022. Many of these devices still support Prime Video, so channels proved to be a useful workaround to access content from ITV and BritBox.

With the closure of ITV Catchup and BritBox, which has now been subsumed by ITVX, these loopholes have been sealed shut, leaving ITVX as the only way to binge-watch boxsets and films ahead of their broadcast on television or without ad breaks.

ITVX replaced ITV Hub at the end of 2022. While it’s widely seen as an improvement, it still generates a range of complaints on social media for glitches and crashes. ITV has confirmed that it will invest in improving the streaming service in the coming months.
