Channel 4 Sunday Brunch star announces cancer diagnosis as they issue devastating statement: ‘Earth-shattering’

Morgan McGlynn Carr, the cheese expert on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, has announced she has been diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer.

The television presenter shared the news on Instagram last Thursday, posting a photograph from her hospital bed.

In her emotional post, McGlynn Carr described the diagnosis as “earth-shattering” but revealed she and her husband have tried to maintain normality for their young daughter.

“In October 2024, I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. It was nothing short of earth-shattering,” she wrote.

“But we’ve done our best to keep life as normal as possible for our daughter,” the presenter added in her announcement.

McGlynn Carr discovered the lump in her right breast on the eve of her daughter’s first birthday. She had recently stopped breastfeeding and initially assumed the lump was related to this change.

“On the eve of my daughter’s first birthday, I found a lump in my right breast. I’d recently stopped breastfeeding and assumed it was related,” she explained in her Instagram post.

When she visited her GP the following Monday, she was told it was “definitely breastfeeding-related”. A breast clinic consultant subsequently examined her and provided similar reassurance.

“The breast clinic consultant said she was 99 per cent sure it was nothing,” McGlynn Carr revealed.

Despite the initial reassurances, McGlynn Carr sought a third medical opinion, a decision she credits with saving her life. “I got a third opinion and that decision saved my life… Trust your gut. Always,” she wrote.

Her husband played a crucial role in encouraging her to seek medical attention. “But my husband made me promise to go to the doctor first thing Monday,” she revealed.

The timing coincided with CoppaFeel! Week, a breast cancer awareness campaign. McGlynn Carr noted that her social media feed was “full of women talking about breast cancer” during this period, which may have heightened her awareness of the need for further investigation.

After sharing the devastating news, McGlynn Carr was inundated with well wishes from her followers and fans of the Channel 4 magazine show.

One Instagram follower typed: “I follow you from Sunday Brunch. I hate cheese! But you have a magic sparkle which made me want to follow – I only follow positive people and, with your sparkle and positivity – be kind to yourself x.”

A second weighed in: “I am so sorry to hear. You’re incredibly brave and honest post has really moved me deeply. Sending you every good wish I can imagine. It sounds like you have a phenomenal inner strength and an army of loved ones around you.”

“Oh my goodness, shattering news for you to take in,” a third commented. “So, so well done for getting through it and ALSO for sharing on here. You’re an absolute sending energy and positivity.”

And a fourth concurred: “Holy c**p I am so sorry you’ve had to go through this. You’ve certainly reminded me to check myself more regularly.

“And any men reading this should be checking their balls and chests too. My husband had testicular cancer and recovered but we all need to check and you’re right – trust our instincts when something is off. Sending you positive healing vibes lovely lady.” (sic)

Sunday Brunch is a live television programme broadcast on Channel 4 every Sunday morning from 10am to 1pm. The show has been presented by Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer since it began in March 2012.

The programme features cookery segments with Rimmer, celebrity interviews, television and film highlights, and various expert-led segments including drink tasting. McGlynn Carr appears as the show’s cheese expert.

Sunday Brunch replaced the BBC’s Something for the Weekend, which ended after seven years due to budget cuts. The Channel 4 programme retained the same presenting duo from the BBC show and expanded its format to three hours, making it 90 minutes longer than its predecessor.
