The group, originally known as Newban, released their debut album in 1978.
However, it wasn’t until 1987 that they achieved major chart success with their first Number 1 hit, Always.
They continued to enjoy popularity into the early 1990s, with their standout track Masterpiece climbing to Number 3 on both the Pop and R&B charts in 1992.
Wayne Lewis, along with his brother Jonathan, remained at the heart of the band.
In later years, they were joined by their nephew Shammah Carter and vocalist Melessa Pierce, performing across the US under the name Atlantic Starr Band.
They continue to perform today, and released their 13th album “Metamorphosis” in 2017.
