Miley Cyrus has broken her silence over her father Billy Ray Cyrus’s relationship with Elizabeth Hurley, revealing she has reconciled with him following a family rift.

The former Disney Channel star told The New York Times podcast that she now wishes “happiness” to her three-times-wed father and Hurley, 59, despite initially struggling with her parents’ divorce.

“I’m being an adult about it,” Miley said, confirming she was fully reconciled with her dad.

Billy Ray met the Austin Powers star on the set of their 2022 film Christmas in Paradise, going public with their relationship in April.

Miley explained that her initial difficulties stemmed from her closeness to her mother, who had been Billy Ray’s second wife after he divorced Cindy Smith in 1991.

“My mum really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard,” she told the podcast.

“I think I took on some of my mum’s hurt as my own because it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult, and so I owned a lot of her pain.”

She described how “the little kid in you reacts before the adult in you can go, ‘Yes, that’s your dad, but that’s just another person that deserves to be in his bliss and to be happy’.”

The singer described how personal growth and timing allowed the family to reconnect, with Miley now respecting her parents as individuals rather than as a parental unit.

“My child self has caught up,” she explained, reflecting on her more mature perspective.

“I think timing is everything. As I’ve gotten older, I’m respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents,” Miley said.

She noted that with her mother now “so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore,” and seeing her father “finding happiness, too,” she can “love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing.”

Miley confirmed her full reconciliation with Billy Ray, stating: “There’s been enough bridges now of time to get us all reconnected. I think timing is everything.”

The singer now wishes happiness to her father and his new partner despite her earlier struggles with the family split.

Billy Ray and Tish finalised their divorce in 2022 after nearly 30 years together.

Tish has since married actor Dominic Purcell, whilst Billy Ray’s brief marriage to singer Firerose ended after seven months last year.

Hurley revealed last month that she is taking their relationship to the next level by preparing to introduce Billy Ray to her family.
