American singer Miley Cyrus has revealed she was hospitalised in intensive care after suffering a “brutal infection” linked to filming her new visual album on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 32-year-old star told Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday that she was admitted to the ICU around Thanksgiving last year after “rolling around” on the iconic Los Angeles landmark during a late-night video shoot in October.
“My leg began to disintegrate around the kneecap area,” Cyrus explained during her appearance on the chat show.
The former Hannah Montana actress said she had to explain to her surgeon that the infection was likely caused by contact with the ground on the Walk of Fame, prompting the medical professional to respond with disgust.
Cyrus detailed the timeline of her health scare, saying: “I filmed this video in October, and by November at Thanksgiving, I was put in the ICU for a moment — just for a moment.”
The infection was severe enough to warrant questioning from her doctor about its unusual cause.
“The doctor goes, ‘Do you have any idea why you would have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?’ And I just saw myself [rolling around on the Walk of Fame] and I had to tell him,” the singer recounted.
She joked about the medical professional’s reaction, saying: “To have a surgeon look at you and say, ‘Yuck’… Like, they open up cadavers, they see inside the gut of humans, and they’re looking at me telling me I’m disgusting.”
The Grammy-winning artist explained that the unusual filming location was chosen due to budget constraints for her new project.
“With this movie, I had a big dream and a small budget. Well, I had a pretty good budget but I spent it all on my clothes,” Cyrus told Kimmel.
She revealed her team’s solution when faced with the high cost of securing the famous location for filming.
“When it came time to go to the Walk of Fame, they were like, ‘So what are you gonna do? Are you gonna rent this thing or what? ‘Cos that’s really out of your price range.’

“I’m like, ‘No, we’ll just go in the middle of the night,'” the Flowers singer recalled.
The decision proved risky beyond just the infection, with Cyrus adding: “Have you been to the Walk of Fame in the middle of the night? I thought it was my last day.”
The Wrecking Ball hitmaker’s new album Something Beautiful is set to be released on May 30, followed by a musical film featuring tracks from the record.
Special one-night-only screenings of the film will take place internationally on June 27, according to reports.
The incident isn’t the only health scare Cyrus has experienced recently. During an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Wednesday, she revealed she suffered a medical emergency during her 2023 New Year’s Eve special.
“I had an ovarian cyst rupture,” Cyrus said, describing the experience as “pretty traumatic” and “extremely excruciating.”
Despite the intense pain, the singer continued with the show, which she hosted alongside her godmother Dolly Parton and featured performances with Parton, Sia and Paris Hilton.
