Lorraine Kelly has made her return to television today after weeks off screen following major surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes.
The 65-year-old Scottish presenter was back on her ITV show this morning after undergoing a preventative procedure.
Kelly appeared on Good Morning Britain before her own programme, revealing details about her surgery and recovery.
She had been absent since early May when she underwent the operation.
The much-loved presenter had previously shared on social media that her doctor had given her the all-clear to return to work, provided she “takes it easy” during her recovery.
Kelly revealed the health scare that led to her surgery during this morning’s programme.
“I was coming back from India. On the flight I had terrible terrible pain and it was an ovarian cyst that had burst,” she explained.
The presenter described experiencing “a bit of bleeding and discomfort” during the incident.
“When I say discomfort, Jesus, you know I’m stoic, but it was horrible,” she added.
Following the episode, Kelly underwent scans which revealed concerns about her ovary.
“I had a scan and was told that it looks like there is a dodgy ovary, so it was best to get it out completely,” she told viewers.

Dr Hilary Jones, who interviewed Kelly on her return, explained the medical reasoning behind the procedure.
He said: “After the menopause, those cysts, usually they are benign. But they can become quite large and have the potential to turn malignant.”
Kelly’s hospital stay was brief, requiring just one night following general anaesthetic. Her recovery at home has involved certain limitations.
“When I got home, Steve had to do everything – I’m not allowed to hoover or anything,” she explained.
The presenter expressed particular frustration at being unable to hold her granddaughter Billie during her recovery period. “I can’t hold Billie; I can’t lift her up,” she told Susanna Reid on GMB.
Despite her surgery, Kelly has maintained a positive outlook about the procedure. “Because of my age, I’m nearly 66, obviously the baby ship has sailed, so I wasn’t emotional,” she said.
The presenter revealed she now needs hormone replacement therapy following the operation.
“I do have to take a bit of testosterone, so there are things I have to do to get the balance right,” she explained.
Kelly told viewers the surgery provided her with “peace of mind” regarding potential health risks.
She acknowledged she’s still adjusting to her recovery.
“I do get really tired and I have to be careful about that. Normally, I’m running around doing a lot, so I need to take it a little bit easier.”
