Stacey Solomon fans rushed to defend the presenter after some criticised her dress choice for Sunday night’s Bafta TV awards.
The 35-year-old TV personality had been nominated for hosting BBC’s Sort Your Life Out, and shared three snaps of herself looking glamorous before she set off to the prestigious awards.
Solomon explained she had re-purposed her weeding dress for the special occasion, with the dress transformed into a sheer playsuit which Solomon paired with sparkling heels.
She accompanied the photos with a caption that read: “Off to the BAFTAs. I’m so excited & so grateful to have been nominated for TWO @bafta this year.
“What in the heck is life. Thank you BAFTA for this honour. And thank you to my @sortyourlifeout family & @bbciplayer for giving me the chance to present the most special show, it’s the best job in the world & I love every second of it.”
Detailing her outfit choice, she continued: “I decided to have my wedding dress re worked for today because wearing it once feels like a travesty to me.
“I wanted to get her out of the box & take her out on another special day.
“Thank you @fayesawyerstylist & Issy for transforming my wedding dress into something so special & beautiful. I love you girls.
“Thank you penny for making me feel so beautiful as always. HERE WE GO! Fingers crossed.”
The X Factor star’s social media followers soon shared their thoughts on the ensemble, with a mixed bag of opinions displayed in the comment section.
However, those who questioned the look were soon shut down by the presenter’s fans, who were quick to defend her and the dress.
One person wrote bluntly: “Think she’s been ill advised. It’s a bit… Trashy. We are all entitled to our opinions.”
Seeming to agree, a second added: “Shame ruined the wedding dress that’s just my personal opinion I wouldn’t have touched it please don’t come at me with hate comments I’m entitled to my opinion.”
“I’m in the minority but I don’t like it,” another critic shared, but the negative responses soon prompted a wave of support for Solomon.
One fan asked: “What do you hope to achieve with the comment? If you don’t like the dress, say it to your husband, the family pet, the wall even. Why make it public and try to rain on someone else’s parade?”
Another suggested: “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything,” with someone else echoing the advice, writing: “don’t feel obliged to comment if you don’t like it.”
Others expressed how much they loved the look, with one commenting: “Love it. you looked amazing and good luck.”
“Absolutely beautiful. what a talented lady! Good luck tonight,” another read.
One more argued: “Would you do this to a friend in person who turns up on a night out? ‘Don’t like your dress/outfit?’ I doubt it. You would not want to hurt them.
“Social media is no different, and shouldn’t be a place for people to say what they want and dress it up as opinion.” (sic)
Solomon’s de-cluttering and family help show Sort Your Life Out was nominated in the Factual Entertainment and Entertainment Performance categories.
However, the show lost the former to Rylan Clark and Rob Rinder’s show, Grand Tour, while the Entertainment Performance award went to Joe Lycett’s show, Late Night Lycett.
