David Beckham, 50, sends message to son Brooklyn, 26, as he addresses absence for first time amid family ‘rift’

David Beckham has sent an emotional public message to his eldest son Brooklyn after he missed both his father’s 50th birthday celebrations and a special “boys” fishing trip to Scotland.

The former England captain shared a series of photos on Instagram from the trip with his other sons Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 20, revealing in the accompanying text that Brooklyn was supposed to be there.

The fishing and camping holiday in the Scottish Highlands had been planned by his sons six months in advance as part of Beckham’s milestone birthday celebrations.

Brooklyn, 26, and his wife Nicola Peltz, 30, were notably absent from all of David’s birthday events over the weekend, further fuelling speculation about a family rift.

However, that didn’t stop the 50-year-old from reaching out to his eldest son, tagging Brooklyn in a snap from the fishing adventure and addressing his absence by saying he was “missed”.

Brooklyn and Nicola had skipped the celebrations amid tensions involving Romeo’s girlfriend Kim Turnbull, it is believed.

In his Instagram posts, Beckham revealed the trip had been meticulously planned “six months ago” as part of his 50th birthday celebrations.

“Six months ago planned a trip with my boys at the start of last week to camp and fish for my 50th,” he wrote. “Was so much fun.”

The trio of David and Brooklyn’s two brothers enjoyed a technology-free getaway in Scotland, with David posting: “Last time boys were allowed to use their phones. Not so happy about it.”

Photos showed the three catching and preparing fresh seafood, including scallops and lobster. “Dinner for three. Fresh scallops, blue lobster and crabs all caught a few hours before this,” David captioned one image.

The former footballer also shared snaps of their accommodation, which appeared to be a simple bothy in the Scottish countryside.

One photo showed Romeo resting on an air mattress in a sleeping bag, with David joking: “Not so happy about the first night’s accommodation.”

The absence of Brooklyn from both the fishing trip and the 50th birthday celebrations was made more poignant by David’s public acknowledgement on social media.

In a selfie featuring David with Romeo and Cruz, he wrote: “Fun times in Scotland. You were missed @brooklynpeltzbeckham.”

This marked the first time the former footballer had publicly addressed his eldest son’s absence from the celebrations.

Brooklyn and Nicola were also missing from Victoria’s Instagram images of the family celebrations, including a family photo with their three other children.

According to The Sun, David was “heartbroken” that his eldest son did not join the London celebrations over the weekend.

Despite being in London the week before, Brooklyn and Nicola were no-shows at an intimate family dinner in the Cotswolds.

Reports suggest the family rift may be linked to Romeo’s girlfriend Kim, who allegedly dated one of Brooklyn’s close friends in the past. However, Cruz has reportedly denied claims that his brother and Kim ever dated.

Other claims have been levelled at Brooklyn’s wife Nicola, with some suggesting she is the one who is at the centre of the fraught relationship with her in-laws rather than Kim.

Nicola avoided mentioning her and Brooklyn’s absence from the Beckhams’ extravaganza over the weekend, but did break cover on social media for a heartfelt reason.

The 30-year-old took to Instragram to pen an emotional tribute to her grandmas. She wrote: “In life, we have core memories and this is one of my most favorite days I’ve ever lived. They were my best friends, there wasn’t a day I wasn’t with them.

“To my naunni and my Gina, I can’t fathom the thought of not being able to hug you or hear your laugh right now – I just miss you both so much. The farther I get from the day you left earth scares me because I feel like I get farther from you.

“I remember this day so clearly, I got us all matching Dior fancy sneakers and I was so proud to match you both this whole summer.

“The Kentucky Derby is today and I will never forget watching it on TV with you both every year.

“I love you both more than anything and think of you every second. I hope you’re together right now looking after me and I hope I see you soon. To my forever soulmates, I more than love you because the word love doesn’t touch how you have made me feel growing up. I felt more than loved and that is what I feel for you both, more than love.”
