ITV Britain’s Got Talent fans fume at Ant McPartlin for ‘strong’ Peter Kay comparison during comedy guitarist’s performance

Britain’s Got Talent viewers were treated to a hilarious performance from dad Andrew Hindson, who had the judges and audience in stitches with his comedic song about his children over the weekend – however, some weren’t best pleased with Ant McPartlin’s comment.

The 30-year-old father of three told the crowd it was his first-ever gig as he took to the stage with his guitar and revealed he had written a song for his kids before launching into what initially seemed like a sentimental tune.

The performance quickly took a comedic turn, surprising both the judges and audience with his humorous lyrics about the challenges of parenthood.

The audience was initially confused when Hindson began telling his kids to “go to sleep” in his song, but it soon became clear when he sang: “I hope that you all know, today all of you have been little bas-” before pausing and saying “baskets.”

After receiving a standing ovation, Simon Cowell admitted: “I thought it was going to be a sentimental father-son type song. But it wasn’t,” before he attempted to imitate Hindson’s northern accent, adding: “It was chicken nuggets every night.”

His talent earned him four yeses from the impressed judging panel, leaving the singer pleased with the outcome and received further praise from McPartlin and Declan Donnelly backstage.

“You remind me of an early Peter Kay. You’re very funny,” McPartlin told him, which sparked a huge debate online with many disagreeing with the comment.

One person wrote on X: “He’s like Peter Kay!!!!??? Really Ant, REALLY!!!?”

“Peter Kay may be a bit of a stretch… he’s talented but isn’t this type of act a one-hit wonder?” someone penned before a third agreed: “Ant comparing him to Peter Kay is going to give him a big head… surely he can’t sing about this kids again if he makes the semis?”

A fourth noted: “I think he was funny and can see a young comedian on the rise but also… Peter Kay comparison is strong.”

However, others supported the comparison, with one commenting: “In a weird way, he reminds me of Peter Kay.”

“Andrew was like Peter Kay with a guitar,” another agreed before someone else said: “This bearded guitarist could be really big. Vibes of Peter Kay, Jasper Carrott, Billy Connolly and Victoria Wood.” (sic)

The comparison comes amid recent headlines about the comedian’s interactions with hecklers during his UK tour.

Kay faced criticism after comparing an audience member to Emmerdale star Lisa Riley at his Manchester show in February.

The comedian has since addressed the backlash at subsequent performances.

During a recent show, Kay was forced to pause when dealing with another disruptive fan.

He directly referenced the previous controversy, asking the audience: “Is it them in that box? Is that them? Who is it? Now then, what are we going to do with you now?”

Kay then joked: “These people in this area now, do any of you look like Lisa Riley? No, alright,” which reportedly prompted laughter from the crowd.
