ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly has come under fire for her “patronising” tone on the latest instalment of her morning chat show.

Kelly, 65, fronts her self-titled programme where she speaks to an array of guests, with one of the latest being singer Alex Warren.

However, as the 24-year-old opened up about his troubled and tragic past, Kelly was accused of speaking to the chart-topping US singer “like he is a baby”.

Her responses came as Warren discussed the loss of his parents as well as homelessness he faced in his teens.

The singer also talked about his late mother’s battle with alcoholism.

Alex’s father died from cancer when he was only nine years old, and he was kicked out his home by his mother when he was 18, leaving him homeless.

In 2021, his Warren’s mother then died following years of alcohol addiction.

“I just knew something was going to work out,” the singer told Lorraine on Thursday.

The Headlights hitmaker continued: “My dad passed away when I was young and my mum was an alcoholic, who was abusive.

“My mum was an amazing person but…” as he trailed off, Kelly chimed in to comment: “Oh, I am so sorry, love.”

Warren continued: “She was drunk. And she tended to be drunk more than she was sober.

“And it was something interesting though because everything I went through, I wouldn’t have my wife, I wouldn’t have this career. I wouldn’t have a story to talk about.”

“Sure, that is a great way to look at it,” Kelly responded, nodding her head.

Many who were tuned into the segment found Kelly’s responses condescending, with several taking to social media to complain about the presenter’s “tone”.

Posting on X, MailOnline reports that one viewer shared: “The patronising tone, talking to him like he’s a baby. #lorraine.”

Another wrote: “Let’s hope Alex Warren likes being spoken to like he’s a 4 yr old #Lorraine”

A different viewer added: “@lorraine is a bit of a narcissist #lorraine.”

“I accidently switched it on, saw the ‘actress’ #Lorraine fake empathy, and nearly threw the remote at the TV,” another fumed.

One more commented: “Oh be quiet #Lorraine, geesh she’s so fake!” (sic)
